Timothy Skillman
Author, sailor, adventurer and lifelong waterman
RAISED ON THE WATER
Freedom began at the edge of a lake.
Timothy Skillman was raised on Lake Angeles, north of Detroit, in the 1960s and 70s.
The fifth child and fourth son of an auto-industry executive and his socialite wife, Tim and his siblings were left to run free. Their childhood formed a deep instinct for the outdoors, risk, independence, and water.
Education and Career
With two degrees from the University of Michigan, Tim married and settled into twenty years of classic American success, eventually building a high-pressure consulting career.
The Breaking Point
In 2004, dissatisfaction became a course correction. He quit everything, moved aboard his 53-foot sailboat, and left with no plans to return.
Beyond the Horizon
Moving through time and space in new and unusual ways is Tim’s passion. Life on the edge remains his preferred location.
